Material | Density
| Young's Modulus
| Ultimate Strength
| Yield Strength

Steel (ASTM-A36) | 7860 | 200 | 400 | 250 |
Aluminium | 2710 | 70 | 110 | 95 |
A36 Steel is produced in a wide variety of forms, such as plate, structural shapes, pipe, bar and sheet. This material can also be welded very cheaply and easily, and it can also be bolted and riveted which meet all the requirements for our product so far. Although Aluminium has lower Young’s Modulus/ U.T.S/Yield strength, if implemented in the project it would make the crane light and easy to transport. The next stage is to look into other factors such as the costing, the manufacturability (can it be easily shaped/welded into the desired form etc.) and also if it is physically capable of carrying a 1000kg load.
